Why is being white and proud always misconstrued as being A Nazi? I mean, if someone is Latino and proud, or Black and proud, isn't it just being happy of one's heritage. I admit, there has been many a stupid proud white person that has resorted to violence and propaganda, but then again, haven't there been other races of people that have done the same? The Black Panters, etc. In this everchanging world of affirmitive action and politically correctness is it not still ok to be proud that you are white and scream it from the building tops without being labeled a klansman? I for one and proud of my skin color, but feel that i am equally worthless to anyone else until I prove myself to them, as they are equally worthless to me until they do the same. If that labels me a klansman, then maybe I should go get a sheet and cut some eyeholes in it. But then wouldn't that mean that all of these african americans and mexican americans that are proud enough of their heritage to put bumper stickers on their vehicles and wear medallions to do the same. I mean we could have red sheets, white sheets, black sheets, yellow sheets. Hell, it would look like a pac man game on crack!!! Any ideas on this? I just think that proud white people get a bad rap, thats all.

I've given you MY reason for rolling my eyes every time I hear someone say "I'm {insert skin color} and I'm proud." Let's talk about pride for a moment... what good is it if we take pride in things we exert no control over? I'm proud of the fact that I act according to a moral framework and treat others well. I'm proud of my son. I'm proud of the way I run my household. All the many things that give me pride are all actions or a series of actions carried out by myself or someone I care about. I believe pride should be a result of doing something to the best of your ability. I don't understand why people would take pride in something they couldn't control. You could just as easily have been born Hispanic or Afro-American. Would you have been proud of your skin color had that been the case? I think maybe the correct semantics for this argument, or my interpretation of the emotions you've expressed about this matter, should be "I am connected to and familiar with my heritage." Although I still don't get why someone's heritage would matter because we're all humans and connected to everyone that way.. Having said all that, I know I immediately think "Nazi" when a white person declares his/her pride in being white because not only do I not understand why anyone would be proud of their race for the aforementioned reasons, but you have to admit that the majority of white-pride people have been associated with violence against other races. In my mind, being proud to be a certain skin color insinuates that they're very glad they're not another color because then they wouldn't be proud. I will also say that I hold the same opinion regardless of who is proud of their skin color, whether they be hispanic, black, native american, chinese, blahblahblah. I know this is a wordy retort and I could say alot more on the subject, but let's just leave it at that and I'll sign out- Megan...proud to be human and completely ignorant of her heritage, other than that she isn't a bastard child.
